AVIF to WEBP Converter
Convert AVIF images to WebP for broader compatibility while keeping file sizes small. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Adjust quality and convert multiple files at once.
Same as avif-to-jpg — decode AVIF, encode WebP. No AVIF encoding involved.
How it works
- Drop one or more AVIF files into the box above, or click to browse your device.
- Adjust the quality slider if you want a smaller file size, then click "Convert to WEBP".
- Download the converted WEBP files individually, or as a ZIP if you selected more than one.
About this conversion
AVIF and WebP are both modern, efficient formats, but WebP has wider support across CMS platforms, social sites, and older devices that haven't added AVIF support yet. Converting trades a little extra file size for that broader compatibility.
This tool decodes the AVIF using your browser's built-in image decoder, draws it to a canvas, and re-encodes it as WebP. AVIF decoding is broadly supported in current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari; WebP encoding is supported even more widely.
Frequently asked questions
Why isn't my AVIF file loading?
AVIF decoding needs a reasonably current browser. If yours can't open the file, you'll see a clear error message — try updating your browser or use a different device.
What quality setting should I use?
80% is a solid default. Increase it if you notice visible artifacts, or lower it further to shrink file size for thumbnails.
Is there a file size or file count limit?
Each file must be under 25MB, and you can convert up to 40 files in one batch, since processing happens in your browser's memory rather than on a server.
